Review of Wizards Book by Aubrey Sherman

Wizards by Aubrey Sherman.I recently had a chance to read Wizards; The Myths, Legends, & Lore by Aubrey Sherman. Aubrey is also the author of Vampires; The Myths, Legends, & Lore published in July, 2014.

Adams Media was kind enough to send me a copy of the book to review for The Creative Cottage blog. The book is divided into three parts. The first part of the book gives an overview of wizards, what is a wizard, the tools they use, and the magical powers associated with wizards, sorcerers and other practitioners of the occult.

The second part of the book focuses on wizards in history, including Merlin and the mythological magic of Camelot. The final section of the book deals with wizards in literature and in film. So if you are a Harry Potter fan, you are in luck. The author devotes an entire chapter to the wonderful world of Hogwarts.

About the Wizards Book

From the back cover: “For centuries, people have been mesmerized by the spectacular tales of wizards. In this book, you will uncover the mystery behind these sorcerers with folklore, mythology, and poetry from every tradition in the world. My Final Thoughts

Wizards is a great introduction into the world of wizardry. I would have liked to learn more about wizards in ancient history and mythology and less about wizards in current literature, television, and film. But I guess the popularity of recent movies, including Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, probably dictated the contents of this book. Wizards is the perfect book for teenagers and young adults wanting to learn more about wizards, sorcerers and magicians. It’s a great book to include in your reference library for anyone interested in magic, mythology, and the occult.

Wizards is part of The Myths, Legends, & Lore series from Adams Media.

Other titles in the series include:

  • Unicorns – Skye Alexander
  • Fairies – Skye Alexander
  • Mermaids – Skye Alexander
  • Vampires – Aubrey Sherman
  • Dragons – Doug Niles

Adams Media was kind enough to send me a copy of Unicorns by Skye Alexander, which I’ll review in a future post.
