Beads, Baubles and Embellishments; Not Just for Jewelry

This design is worked in single count peyote stitch using Miyuki delica beads. This pattern could be repeated, to make a 3D amulet bag. Left as is, and framed, this pattern also makes an interesting home decor item. Original beaded dolphin design by Lynn Smythe.

Beadwork, It’s Not Just for Jewelry

I used to create many beaded jewelry projects including tons and tons of seed bead earrings. For a while, I thought the smaller the bead, the more interesting as smaller beads meant more detailed images. I find it’s getting harder to work with the really small beads as I get older.

I also get bored only making wearable art jewelry, so I decided to create some larger beadwork patterns. The larger patterns can be attached to a fabric-covered cardboard backing, then framed, to create unique, beaded home decor items.

Beadart or Bead Jewelry

There are three fairy/goddess beaded pictures shown in the image below. I used size 11/0 square Miyuki delica beads but any of these patterns can be worked in a smaller bead to make a piece of wearable bead art. For example, try using size 15 seed beads to make an amulet bag sized beaded bag embellished with a beaded neckstrap and lots and lots of fringe!
