Freshen Up The Walls
A coat of paint will go a long way in improving the appearance of a space, without having to spend a lot of money. Stick to neutral shades if you want to give out the illusion of a bigger space in a small room. If you’re using vibrant colors, try using the color on one wall to make it a feature and keep the other walls, a more subdued, neutral tone.
If you’re doing the painting yourself, always buy a few tester paint pots and do a swatch test on the wall before deciding on the color. You don’t want to get just the one shade, paint the entire wall and then realize you don’t like it and have to repaint. Mix up your color scheme every now and again too, new paint colors are a great way of boosting your mood, so pick colors that you like.
Hang it Up
Get creative with your storage options, by installing floating shelves. These are great to stylize and add something different to your walls. They also make for great storage options for books, DVDs and CDs.
Don’t be afraid to get arty and hang up some family photos or generic art photos to give your guests something to look at. Try and stick with the same colors for frames and group together frames if you have a large surface area of wall you want to cover.
Rearrange the Furniture
Having the furniture in the same layout as you first had it when you moved in, can become a little bit boring. But just by changing the position of a bed, sofa or desk might have a great impact on the space and allows you to fall in love with it all over again.
So, when you find yourself a little tired of of room decor, switch around the furniture and experiment with the space that you have. It costs nothing but can make a big difference.
Add Nature to the Space
Nature can have a great effect on your mood and even provides you with a more relaxing atmosphere. Adding bits of nature gives the room a bit more color, and it doesn’t have to be real if you can’t commit yourself to watering plants every day. Faux flowers and plants can work just as well as real ones.
Try and put one or two plants in each room, and you’ll notice a big difference for such a small cost. Sprucing up your outdoor space is important to and if you want to add a little extra, the 16X24 Gable Storage Shed Plan, is great for building your own shed.
Clear Out the Clutter
A messy room can really make the space less attractive and you’ll not want to spend any time in there. Do a regular spring clean out of your home, and you’ll be surprised by how much you’ve hoarded and how incredible every room will look when it’s free of clutter.
A minimalistic approach for the home is what gives it its elegance. You can also sell anything you don’t want which means more money to go towards improving your home.
Upgrade Your Lighting
Lighting doesn’t have to cost a lot, simply replacing fluorescent, cold lighting with warm, LED lights can make your home appear more inviting. Don’t be afraid to be bold either with lighting choices, a big statement chandelier or pendant light won’t cost a lot but can add grandeur to a room.
Natural light can also be a great way of improving the appearance of your home. Avoid, heavy curtains or blinds that don’t let the light in and if you do have big windows, avoid putting anything in front of them. Natural light is good for the brain so if you don’t have access to it, you could always buy lighting that mimics natural light.
Renew Old Furniture
Is that old furniture that you’ve had for a while starting to look a little tired? Well instead of throwing it out, you can get your sofas and chairs reupholstered so that they look brand new. They’ll cost less than getting new ones, and it means you get to keep your old furniture. Adding a little paint to kitchen cupboards and bedroom furniture can also improve their appearance.
You can improve your home on a budget following some of these improvements. So, if there’s a room that needs a little care and attention, use some of these tips.
