As the one room we tend to gather in throughout the day, the kitchen is certainly the heart of your home. It’s also the one room we’d rather avoid having to see something break down, though, since we depend on it so much. For instance, if the fridge should break down all of the sudden, it’s kind of like a small disaster.

You can definitely steer clear of these issues, as long as you manage to properly care for your kitchen. It doesn’t take much at all and you’ll be rewarded by having access to a functioning kitchen where everything is practical, easy to use, and always dependable.
Here is a handful of the best ways to ensure that your appliances last as long as possible so that you can continue to gather with your family in there without any kitchen hiccups.
First: Keeping it Clean
With everything you buy, the number one rule to giving it a long and healthy life is to keep it clean. It’s not just something we say either, though, as the buildup of dirt will make all of those small components in your appliances work much harder than they would have had to do otherwise.
The fridge is particularly important to care for, by the way, unless you recently bought a new one as these tend to take care of themselves these days. Clean the condenser coils twice a year, first of all, and defrost your fridge if necessary.
This will keep it from breaking down prematurely and you can continue to store all your food in there without any issues.
Treat the rest of your kitchen the same way and keep your dishwasher as well as your oven as clean as possible. You can have a look at this article if you need some more cleaning tips for your kitchen so that you can get started right away. It won’t clean itself, you know – unless you have those fancy fridges, that is.
Next: Don’t Overload it
When you treat your appliances right, they’ll take care of you for many years to come. If you overload them, on the other hand, or just work them a bit too hard, they’ll most certainly call it a day much sooner than you anticipated.
Think about how you’re using your kitchen and whether or not you’re making it work a bit too hard. That dishwasher, for example, should not be overloaded so try to wash the extra pots and pans by hand if they won’t fit properly. Remember to address this as well if you have any issues with a leaking faucet or a loss of water pressure.
It’s the kind of kitchen fixes that will make you enjoy cooking and cleaning again as everything works as it should. Now you should be able to cook up a feast as much as you want, with a functioning kitchen and without any worries of seeing it break down mid-feast.
