Upgrading your home is not something to take for granted. You can make a big difference in the look of your home with just a few small adjustments to the design and decor of your home. Make small adjustments and refinements that make the most sense to you – add a new sofa table to your living room, or a add a colorful toy bin to upgrade all the toys in your daughter’s room. Upgrading a home need not be a complete redesign. There is no need to spend tens of thousands of dollars (or pounds depending on where you live) to renovate your home.

Your home is a reflection of your style, your taste and your approach to interior design and decorating. You can upgrade your home using simple techniques you may not have initially considered. Thankfully, there are many methods to upgrade your home, here are a few to consider:

Invest in Great Furniture

Furniture fills every room we decorate, so it’s essential to use items of quality, and to upgrade where necessary. While you can outfit a home on the cheap using flat-pack businesses (you know, build-it-yourself furniture from Ikea), this often isn’t the most aesthetically impressive method you can choose. Investing in higher quality furniture means even a single piece can reinvigorate a room.

A few well-made furniture pieces can also serve as a conversation starter. The ability to choose high-quality furniture is also dependent on your specific taste. For example, you may decide to use reclaimed wood as your table, perhaps a saved door from an old farmhouse or purchase some vintage mid-century modern pieces to scatter throughout your home.

Obtaining higher-quality furniture usually comes at a cost. But, that price is more than worth doing so, because better quality items will last for years, maybe even a decade or longer. Upgrading your home decor can be as simple as choosing a few pieces of quality furniture like a dinning room table and chairs set.

Feng Shui furnitureNavigability

Navigability is important to consider when it comes to your home space. Are you continually tripping over table legs and other furniture? Do you have to walk the long way around your living room couch just to get to another room in your home? Furniture is wonderful, but often we can have too much of it in our space. You may want to do a bit of “pruning” to get rid of some of the clutter.

A good Feng Shui book (or website) can provide you with a variety of ideas on the best way to arrange the furniture in each room. Try and figure out the best flow in each room reflect on how each piece can be best oriented. It’s not uncommon for people to double the usable space in a room if they simply chance the current furniture arrangement.

Care and Attention

You don’t need to replace all of the items that decorate your home, but you should carefully consider the quality of any new pieces you buy. Also, a little reupholstery, a little repainting, or a little TLC can make a big difference and really make your home shine. When was the last time you really deep cleaned – washed curtains or cleaned all your carpets and upholstered furniture?

With these tips to upgrade the decor in your home, you’re sure to enjoy your space all over again.
