If gardening has never really been your thing, it can be difficult to see what you might do to improve the curb appeal of your yard. You are probably used to looking at it just as it is and struggle to see how you could transform your garden with a few simple changes to your landscaping. This is where today’s inspiration comes in, as we share with you 4 projects guaranteed to transform your yard and garden.

Rearrange the Planting

If your current garden is all overgrown and untidy, the first thing that you need to do is cut it all back, mow the lawns and trim any hedges and shrubs. If you have not done this in many months, then you probably won’t need to do anything else at all out there to have it instantly transformed into a much more pleasant outdoor space.

If your yard lacks character, then remove some grass to make room for a few flower beds or raised bed gardens. New planting beds give your garden a new shape and the space to add some fresh flowers and shrubs. Alternatively, look at where you currently have things planted and move them if they do not seem to be thriving there.

The easiest way to add in and move around plants is to use containers and pots. You can cluster them together, pile them up on shelves or dot them around your deck or patio. One of the best thins about container gardening is that you can move them whenever you want to make it all look different again.

Add Height and Shade

Adding height and shade to a garden will give it a completely new look throughout the day. Light will hit your garden differently at every single hour, and taller structures will draw the eye.

The most natural way to do this is to add tall shrubs and trees. These will blend seamlessly into the landscape while adding a new dimension to it. Once you have decided what to go for, check out tree nursery locations nearby, and make a few calls to make sure that they have what you need in stock before making the journey.

Alternatively, you can add pagodas, arbors, umbrellas and archways to add interest and shade.

Create New Pathways

Pathways are an easy way to add instant interest and change the layout of your yard. You can choose to do this very neatly and with precision, or you can go for more haphazard and rambling pathways, it is completely up to you.

When you create new pathways, look to take them underneath things, such as trees and arbors, or lead them to points of interest, such as a backyard pond or allotment area.

Decorate Like a Room

The best way to treat your transform your garden and backyard is to view it as another room of your house. When you do this you will enjoy dressing and decorating it as you would any other room.

When was the last time that you gave it a lick of paint? Perhaps the fences and shed could do with touching up, or getting a complete makeover. If they have always been brown or green, how about trying gray or purple to make them pop? You can do a similar thing with any decking and garden furniture too.

After you have freshened up the paintwork, you might want to add little touches like solar or fairy lights dotted around, or soft furnishings to make it feel inviting.
