Simplistic sentiments go a long way, and as far as simplicity is concerned, we’ve got to go a little bit further back in time. That idea of a rustic themed design is a fantastic thing to implement in your home. In conjunction with simple decor or a modest approach to turning your home into something a little more understated yet classic, is a fantastic way to add that layer of coziness, but also evoke that charm from within the property.

But as many homes these days are pretty modern, this can be quite a challenge. What are the ways to evoke a more rustic home decor sentiment in every corner of your house?

Install More Browns

If you want to turn your space into something more rustic, brown, and its various shades, are the best approach. It’s not just within the property, but you can add little touchstones to the exterior as well, such as by using wood casement windows and giving your property an exterior makeover to reduce the more modern aspects.

The brown, beige, chocolate, ivory color scheme needs to reflect nature, and bring the outdoors into the property. Think about where you live, and what you can do to the exterior of the property to match what’s going on around you. As well as browns, it’s worth going for greens and tans. Those neutral, earthy tones make it a great place to begin.

The Antique Furniture Look

One of the biggest mistakes we make is gutting our house completely to transform the space into something more antique looking. You don’t need to do this; picking a few choice items of furniture can help obtain that rustic look with ease. Think about your hobbies, and have the accessories and furniture reflect this. In terms of furniture, you can make it a bit more earthy, especially in the bedroom, by purchasing a bed made from wooden materials like logs and twigs.

The Right Accessories

Accessories work wonders especially if you don’t have the money to buy new furniture. When it comes to adding those little touches around the home, think about patchwork quilts and this becomes a staple material that can cover a multitude of modern sins. It can be a quilt for the beds, a cover for the sofa, or whatever you want.

But it needs to represent something a bit more natural, like trees. Also, think about adding some rustic decor that you can easily purchase from a thrift store. The great thing about that rustic idea is that you can get plenty of accessories for a very low cost. Hit the flea markets and go wild!

Changing Your Flooring

If you are looking for a major way to shake up the space, changing the flooring will completely alter the perception of your home. Go for hardwood flooring, like slabs, and add parquet to create this rustic sensation. Once you have done this, adding large rugs creates an additional overtone. As well as this, think about your lighting, because a space can look quite tanned. Maybe a lamp that adds a bit more orange?

So, there you have it, the top tips and tricks for adding a bit of rustic home decor to the rooms throughout your house, apartment, townhouse or condo.
