One of the major things that you’ll want for your home during the hot summer months is the ability to spend time with friends and family without having to worry about it getting too hot inside. If you’ve ever lived somewhere where you are always hot, like Florida where I’m currently living, you know how important it is to keep your home, apartment, condo or townhouse cool.
If the heat and humidity is too high it can make your home much less livable if you can’t keep the temperature at a certain comfort level. A hot and sticky home makes it harder to get a good nights sleep and it can even lead to a number of health problems for some people. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to keep your home cool during the summer. Follow along and consider some of these options to help you keep your home comfortable during the summer.
Keep It Open
A house with an open design is much more likely to stay cool, so if you happen to live in such a place then you have something of a head start here. Of course, if you don’t have this kind of home, then you will probably not be able to just alter the design of it. But what you can do is try to make sure that you’re doing everything possible to keep it as open as possible by other means.
For instance, keeping the furniture to a minimum will make a difference to how open the floor plan is, and believe it or not that makes it easier for the house to keep cool when it gets a little hot. That’s because the more room you allow for air to circulate, the cooler the space will be kept on the whole. So consider going for something of a minimalist vibe in your home if you want to keep it cool this way.
Use Fans
If you want to have a much more direct means of keeping your house cool, then you might want to consider using fans as well. Room and ceiling fans are always a great way to make the space cooler, and you will find that placing them around at the right places will really be all you need to keep cool. There are a few different kinds of fans you might want to consider using depending on if you live in a large house, tiny studio apartment, or something in between.
You can use oscillating fans or desk fans, which are suitable if you don’t have an incredible amount of heat to deal with. But if you live somewhere where it is much more of an ongoing problem, then you might want to think about installing Minka Aire Ceiling Fans. This type of fan will help keep a whole room cooler much more effectively than other kinds of fans, and you will find that they are a great addition to any home in an area where heat can be a real problem.
Just make sure you choose good quality ceiling fans so that you know you can trust them to work well. Depending on your budget, you can get a basic fan or choose a fancier ceiling fan with a remote control for ease of operation.
Go White to Keep Your Home Cool
The colors that you use in the home will make a difference so if you’re really concerned with keeping your home cool then you should focus on using lighter colors throughout your home. Darker colors, such as black, navy and dark gray absorb more light and heat, which means that the room as a whole will be warmer than you want it to be. Lighter surfaces will help reflect the heat, and that will make your rooms cooler.
The best color is obviously just pure white, as that will reflect the most heat. But any light colors are bound to help here, so make sure that you are using them when it comes to decorating your walls and so on. The lighter and whiter you go, the cooler your home will be, even if you just change one or two walls to a lighter shade.
Keep Air Flowing
We’ve talked already about how air flow helps keep your home nice and cool, so let’s take a closer look at this option. The better the air flowing throughout your home, the more likely it is that you will be able to keep your rooms cool during those warmer months. So try and make a point of leaving windows and doors open whenever possible – as long as that is not too much of a security risk where you are. The better the air flow, the better you’ll be able to keep your bedrooms, living areas and other areas in your home nice and cool.
