It’s easy to look around your home and think that your decor and design just doesn’t compare to what you see on the internet. You may feel as though your property looks dark and dingy and that it’s just not a bright or happy space. If you want to turn things around, here are some top tips that will help you redecorate your home.

Place Your Mirrors Strategically

Mirrors are great for giving you the illusion of space. They are also ideal for bouncing light around a room too. If you want to boost the amount of natural light that floods into your home, then it helps to put them across from a window. You might also want to put two mirrors in the same room so that they bounce the light even more.  If you have two windows in the same room, put a mirror between them. When you do, it will act like a third window and it will also make it way easier for you to emphasize the space.

Clean Your Lights

Windows and light fixtures can really gather dust and dirt over time. When this happens, the light is blocked out and you may even find that your room feels dark and dingy too. If you want to stop this from happening, take the time to go over every single light fitting in your home. You need to make sure that it is dusted properly and that you wipe the windows down too. This will help the natural light to penetrate better and it will also brighten up the room in general.

Floor Lamps

Floor lamps are a fantastic way for you to brighten a space. If you have alcoves, lamps like this can really light up the room and they are also a very stylish addition too. If you want to make the most out of your purchase, you need to try and choose lamps that are tall and thin. That way they don’t take up too much room, but they add a lot of light.

Redecorate Your Home With Furniture

Dark and even bulky furniture can add a great deal of visual weight to your home. Items like this can also block out a lot of light too. One way for you to get around this would be to invest in furniture with metal hairpin legs. They are very stylish, and they’re fantastic at giving you the illusion of having more space. As if that wasn’t enough, they’re modern so if this is the look you are going for then it’s a great investment.

Open Shelving

Cabinets are very similar to furniture, with the fact that they can easily a dark and heavy feeling to the room. If you want to avoid this from happening, then consider investing in some open-shelving units. This will make your dishes and pots more prone to gathering dust, but they will also make your room feel much more open and spacious so it’s worth looking into this.

Always Choose Matt Paint

A lot of people believe that gloss paint is always the best option when trying to make a room feel brighter because it has that shiny finish. This is not the case at all, and sometimes it can actually absorb sunlight. This is the last thing that you want, so try and opt for matte paint instead. This will reflect the light much more and it will also make it way easier for you to really get that modern and clean finish. If you want to find some indoor paint products then there are plenty for you to choose from online.

Venetian Blinds

Instead of having heavy curtains or any other type of window covering, try and have Venetian blinds instead. You can open them up in an upward angle and when you do this, you will then direct way more sunlight to the ceiling. This will then make the room feel more spacious and it will stop it from feeling drab and lifeless.

Paint Isn’t Your Only Option

It’s a common misconception that you need to paint your walls white if you want to redecorate your home and you have a dark room. Sure, white is great if you have light coming in because it will reflect it much more efficiently when compared to other colors. That being said, if your room is dark or lacking some light anyway then there won’t be much to reflect. If you want to get around this then it does help to paint your walls a brighter, or more pigmented color. This can include gold, as it will illuminate the room without compromising the size.
