Before the builders come in and start knocking down walls, it’s important to understand what walls should stay or go. Although it sounds like something a contractor should know, there are cowboys out there. Plus, you pay them to do a job and that is to renovate; anything is outside of the deal. One final thing to consider is that contemporary architects have experience with the latest designs and trends. A builder or even a retro surveyor might not know how to deal with a spiral staircase or outside kitchenette.
Contracting Team
One man and his hammer aren’t going to make a dent in a large renovation project. While you might think you and your family can do the work yourself, you’ll probably just end up making a big mess. For that reason, contracting with a team of builders is a great option.
To begin with, contractors are efficient at project managing each job to keep your home improvement on track and on time. Also, what happens if you get sick in the middle of the renovation? If you’re working with a large contractor, it’s no big deal if one of their employees gets sick – they’ll just assign another construction worker to your job to keep the project on track and on budget.
Accountant
You’ll hear all kinds of horror stories about budgeting for a renovation. No matter what budget you set, there’s always the possibility that your contractor will find problems once they start knocking down walls. It’s always good to have a contingency plan in place if your contract discovers your electrical system isn’t up to code, or that your air conditioner needs replacing.
You might find yourself without enough money to finish the project on time and no one can cut corners to keep the plan on track. At some point, you might have to pump in more cash to complete the work. An accountant can help you decide how much you invest and in the long run can save you a small fortune. They’ll help you draw up a renovation investment plan, which you should follow to stay on budget.

Parents
Your parents can be an essential part of your renovation team for many reasons. For one, your parents can watch your children when you need to go to the home improvement store to pick out your new appliances.
Also, if you are doing a whole home renovation you’ll probably have to move out of your house on a temporary basis. A spare room, or finished basement in your parents home might make the perfect place to stay rent-free. You could rent a hotel room or live in a caravan but it’s nowhere near as comfortable as staying with family.
