Using Digital Designs, Embroidery Patterns and Illustrations

Note: This blog post is a sponsored conversation written by Lynn Smythe, the Founder and Chief Blogger for The Creative Cottage lifestyle blog. The opinions, thoughts, ideas and text are all mine.

If you’re like me, you probably have more than a few hobbies you enjoy working on during your free time. I tend to be a bit crafty and enjoy a variety of DIY & Craft extracurricular activities including gardening, baking, cooking, sewing, beading, embroidery, art clay silver, silversmithing, fused glass, scrapbooking, altered art and more. I’m always looking for great digital designs and pattern ideas to use in my own projects.

Start With a Creative Design

I’m always looking for unique patterns and designs to incorporate into my own craft, beaded embroidery, loom-woven, and jewelry projects. I was happy to discover that many online sites offer a variety of scalable vector graphics (AKA SVGs) and embroidery design files that you can download then use to create your own amazing, handmade gifts and products.

Online design sites specialize in connecting talented independent designers with discount-seeking customers through their easy-to-use Design Marketplaces. Looking through the Design Bundle website I found many, many designs and patterns that I can’t wait to start using. They also mention that they pride themselves on their outstanding reputation for Quality at Affordable Prices with Customer Service being their #1 Core Focus.

Besides making a variety of fused glass and beaded jewelry, I used to write how-to articles for various craft and jewelry magazines. I like the fact that you can also use craft design bundles to create patterns for loom woven and beaded embroidery projects. I’ve uploaded graphics, illustrations and even photos to software programs such as Bead Pattern Designer to convert the designs to peyote, loom, or brick stitch bead patterns. These bead programs allow you to edit the patterns and colors before printing out the final design.

Beadwork Designs

One of my future projects is to offer my loom woven, peyote stitch and brick stitch bead patterns for sale on The Creative Cottage website. The patterns will include a color graph, a custom bead graph and a bead shopping list, showing the exact brand, size and color of beads used. I typically use cylinder beads, either Miyuki delicas or Toho Aiko, to create my beaded jewelry patterns.

FYI: the beaded bracelet image shown below features a few examples of my loom woven bracelets I created using size 11/0 Miyuki delica cylinder beads. The fused glass clasps were created using the technique of bead embroidery on ultra-suede. Head on over to my Loom Woven Beaded Bracelets post to see more of my original design loom woven bracelets, each of which feature a clasp made with one of my fused glass cabochons.

If you do a quick search on YouTube you’ll find many videos showing you how to download and use SVG digital designs bundles and embroidery files in your own art and craft projects. Scalable vector graphics is the ultimate tool for budding crafters and artists alike!
