Slice the avocado in half lengthwise.
Twitst the avocado open and remove the large seed.
Scoop out the avocado and place in the bottom of a large bowl.
Add the garlic and lime juice to the avocado.
Smash the avocado, garlic, and lime juice together. You can either use a large fork and a mixing bowl, or a mortar and pestle to complete this step.
Stir in the chopped onion, chopped tomato, and cilantro leaves.
Optional: stir in salt or hot sauce if desired.
Serve your bowl of freshly made guacamole with a bowl of corn chips or use as side dish as part of a Tex-Mex inspired meal.
Leftover guacamole can be used for breakfast as avacado toast.
