You need your house to stay standing if you want to be in it for as long as possible. This means that you need to look after it the best you can, keep it protected and ensure that the house is in good working order.

Naturally, you will want to take as much action as possible to ensure that you look after your home the best way that you know how. There are steps that you can take to keep your home as secure and as steady as possible and we’ve got the best tips that you need to make it happen.

Be Careful With Your Locks & Keys

So many people make the dire mistake of labelling their keys with their address, and in some cases, they even leave them attached to keyrings that have fobs to unlock gates. When this happens, their property becomes easy to attack. It’s important that you look after your keys and locks carefully, and if you lose your keys it’s worth changing your locks to protect you from any unwelcome visitors letting themselves into your home.

You can hide a spare key in the garden under a fake rock, or you can put it in a special lockbox with a code to get the spare from if you lose your regular set.

Make Your Exterior Less Appealing

Hide the garden furniture in the shed when it’s not in use, and add spiky garden plants to make the garden look less appealing. Of course, you want it to look beautiful, but you need some large fences, obvious security systems and security lights, too. All of this can make the thieves out there thing your home is a fortress, and that’s exactly what you want to happen!

Think Ahead

If you are going away on a holiday, then think ahead toward them. Cancel bread and milk deliveries, and speak to your neighbours about keeping their eye on the house for you while you’re away. Only speak to those who are trustsworthy of course, and set up a timer to get your lights on and off when you want them to be.

UV Pen Your Valuables

If you do get robbed and your belongings are taken, it’s easy to identify them if you mark them all with a UV pen. Mark your house number and the post code or zip on the items and you’ll be able to recover them quickly if they’re taken.

Secure The Shed

Sheds are one of the first places that people look when they want to rob a house. There are usually expensive power tools and outdoor machinery stashed away in their and all of these things are valuables. Tools can be sold or used as weapons to break in somewhere, and you need to have the sturdiest locks on your shed to ensure no one can break into it even if they want to!
