Meeting Friends and Making Connections in Jacksonville

Note: This blog post is a sponsored conversation written by Lynn Smythe, the Founder and Chief Blogger for The Creative Cottage lifestyle blog. The opinions, thoughts, ideas and text are all mine.

Online dating sites, such as Jacksonville Personals,  are a great way to virtually meet people with similar interests, really get to know them and hopefully make a connection. But once you have found your potential perfect match, at some point you will probably want to meet them in person.

With the current COVID-19 crisis and a continued focus on social distancing, you are limited as to what kind of dating activities you can do in the sunshine state.

Top 5 Outdoor Dating Ideas in Jacksonville, Florida

Get ready to get out and about with your special friend, or significant other, and enjoy a bit of fresh air while exploring some of the great parks and attractions in the Jacksonville area. Here are my top 5 recommendations for fun ideas for dating in Jacksonville Florida.

Pay attention to any special mandates, such as one-way traffic along pathways, wearing a mask in public, and staying at least 6 feet apart from other people, and you should be good to go.

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens

According to Wikipedia, the zoo occupies approximately 117 acres and has over 2,000 animals and 1,000 plants in its collection. The zoo also boasts over 1 million visitors on a yearly basis – making it one of the more popular attractions in the area.

If you live in Jacksonville or the surrounding area, you may want to ante up for a yearly membership. Members enjoy FREE admission to the zoo, gift shop discounts, and other great perks. And bonus points, the zoo donates a portion of ticket and membership sales to support over 45 regional and global conservation programs.

Memorial Park

Located along the banks of the scenic St. Johns River in Jacksonville, the 5.85 acre Memorial Park is the perfect location for a romantic walk along the water while taking in the sights. Also, if you want to extend your date, this park is within walking distance of local restaurants and the Cummer Museum of Art.

Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Well, at least tigers, lots and lots of tigers. Get back to nature while visiting this popular wildlife sanctuary in Jacksonville. The mission of the ranch, “is to provide a safe, loving and forever home to endangered big cats and to educate the public about their plight in the wild and in captivity.”

Current ranch “residents” include tigers, lions, leopards, cougars, bobcats, foxes, horses and coatimundis. Wait, what!?! What the heck is a coatimundi? I guess you’ll just have to plan a date at the Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary to find out.

Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens

This attraction is the largest fine arts museum in the Northeast Florida area. As there is a limit to the number of people visiting the Cummer Museum at any given time, it’s recommended you purchase your tickets in advance. Enjoy over 5,000 works of art in the museum, or a leisurely walk in the historic gardens set against the backdrop of the St. Johns River.

Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens

The Arboretum is a great place to connect with nature while strolling along the many garden trails. This park is a 120-acre urban oasis with a walkway encircling a 2-acre lake. Enjoy over 3 miles of walking trails, with strategically placed benches throughout the park, giving you a chance to sit down, strike up a conversation and really get to know your new bff.

So, there you have it, my top couples activities and romantic things to do while on a date in Jacksonville, FL.
