Top 4 Most Romantic Date Ideas in San Diego

Note: This blog post is a sponsored conversation written by Lynn Smythe, the Founder and Chief Blogger for The Creative Cottage lifestyle blog. The opinions, thoughts, ideas and text are all mine.

If you’ve just relocated to the San Diego area for school, a new job, or a change in scenery, welcome to the west coast! But, like anyone new to town, just how do you go about meeting people and making friends? If you’re looking for a romantic relationship, San Diego Personals is a great way to chat online and meet new people in your zip code.

Once you join an online dating site, it’s as easy as creating your profile, uploading a few photos, and chatting with people near you. But once you’ve met someone and gotten the chance to know them via online chats, texts and phone calls, it’s time to plan your first date.

Here are my top 4 recommendations for romantic dating in San Diego ideas for anyone living in the San Diego, California area. And if dinner and a movie aren’t really your thing, you’re in luck! All of these suggestions are for sporty, outdoorsy, athletic, FUN adventures you can enjoy with your BFF, soul mate, Prince Charming, etc.

Balboa Park

This 1,200-acre venue could actually be an entire blog post. Balboa Park is home to many museums, gardens and vintage architecture. Some of the top museums include the San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego Natural History Museum and the San Diego Air and Space Museum. This park is also home to the next attraction on this list, the San Diego Zoo.

San Diego Zoo

When I was 14, my mom, my stepfather (he’s a pilot) and I did a grand 2-week trip flying out to California and back in his wooden frame Mooney airplane. We stopped at many scenic sites along the way including the iconic Gateway Arch in St. Louis Missouri and the Grand Canyon just to name a few. But my number one favorite attraction we visited during that trip was the San Diego Zoo. With over 4 million visitors each year, this is the number one most visited zoo in the United States.

I think the only other zoo I had been to at that point in my life was the rather depressing Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, NY. At the time, the Rochester zoo didn’t have many natural enclosures for their exhibits (can you say caged animals – so sad). The 100-acre San Diego Zoo on the other hand is known for pioneering the concept of housing their animals in open-air, cageless exhibits that attempted to re-create the natural habitat of each animal. Happier animals – run free – FREEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Ocean Beach Pier

This pier is a fish lover paradise. Measuring in at a whopping 1,971 feet, the Ocean Beach Pier is the longest concrete pier on the west coast. The unique t-shape at the end of the pier gives you an additional 360 feet to the south and 193 feet to the north for deepwater fishing or ocean gazing. And bonus points, the pier has its own fishing license so you don’t actually need your own license to fish here!

If fishing isn’t your thing, then take a look at the local tide charts to plan your visit around low tide. That’s when you’ll have the best chance to view and explore the many natural features and wildlife of the tidepools under the pier.

Torrey Pines State Reserve

This is a unique park within a city. A unique feature of the 1,500 acres Torrey Pines State Reserve is that it’s actually within San Diego city limits! This gives visitors an amazing chance to experience how the natural land looked before the surrounding area was developed (and some may say overdeveloped). Spend the day exploring the trails, miles of unspoiled beaches and a lagoon that is vital to flocks of migrating seabirds.
